The Gift of Today
Every morning is a gift from God. When we open our eyes to a new day, we receive hours and opportunities that we did not create and cannot replace. Scripture teaches us to recognize the value of that gift and to live each day with wisdom, gratitude, and purpose.
God's Word calls us to pay attention to how we live:
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:15-16 (NKJV)
Redeeming the time means using what God has entrusted to us carefully. It does not mean filling every moment with activity. It means giving proper attention to what matters: time with God, care for our families, honest work, needed rest, and opportunities to serve and encourage others.
We cannot recover yesterday or guarantee tomorrow, but we can offer today to the Lord. Some days will feel productive and others will not, yet every day can honor God when it is lived with faithfulness, love, and a willingness to follow His direction.
A truth to carry
Today is a gift from God, and how we use it matters.
Psalm 90:12 asks God to teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Remembering that our time is limited helps us become more thankful, intentional, and attentive to the people God places in our lives.
A wisely spent day is not measured only by how much we accomplished. It is also measured by whether we listened to God, loved people well, fulfilled our responsibilities, and made room for compassion.

Three Practices for This Month
- Give God the beginning of your day.Begin with prayer and Scripture before distractions take over. Ask the Lord to guide your decisions and help you recognize what truly matters.
- Choose your priorities prayerfully.Make time for God, family, responsibilities, rest, and the work He has placed before you. Do not allow less important things to consume the entire day.
- Leave room to serve someone.A phone call, prayer, kind word, or act of practical help may be the most meaningful way you spend part of your day.

How am I spending the time God has entrusted to me today?
Ask God to show you what deserves more attention, what may be distracting you, and where He is inviting you to serve.
A prayer for the season
Let us pray
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this day. Teach me to use my time wisely and to place You first in every decision. Help me turn away from distractions and make room for prayer, family, work, rest, and service. Direct my steps, give me wisdom, and let my words and actions show the love of Jesus Christ. May every day You give me be used for Your glory and for the good of others. In Jesus' name, amen.
